Senior Subject Matter Expert: Air Domain Focus
Position Overview
The Joint Staff (JS) J7 leads the Joint Futures and Concepts Program on behalf of the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, shaping the future warfighting environment. This program comprises a future-oriented ecosystem that includes the Joint Warfighting Concept series (JWC), the Joint Operating Environment series (JOE), operating and functional concepts, threat-based CONOPS, and research and analysis. The Bob Johnson Group provides leading SMEs who drive innovative thought, technology integration, operational application of future capabilities, and the development of intellectual content for JS J7 Joint Force Development and Design initiatives, aligned with the National Defense Strategy and National Military Strategy.
Role Summary
The Bob Johnson Group is seeking an experienced Future Concept Development Subject Matter Expert with an emphasis on air domain expertise to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a robust background in DoD operations and staff roles, with significant experience in technology, innovation, and future concept development. Work products will include high-level executive briefs, white papers, research initiatives, and future operational concepts.
Key Qualifications
Military or civil service experience at the O-5/GS-14 level or above.
Extensive experience at the Combatant Command (CCMD) level or senior Service Staff level, focused on integrating advanced solutions and conceptual approaches supporting Joint Functions.
Expertise in command relationships and interorganizational cooperation, including multinational, interagency, and non-governmental agency coordination.
Strong proficiency in all-domain awareness, Joint Command and Control (JADC2), and defense/defeat mechanisms across multiple domains.
Deep understanding of cyber, space, and EMS functions, with insights into service dependencies on domain superiority and both existing and emerging technologies.
Expert knowledge of Service Capstone Concepts such as Multi-Domain Operations (MDO), Distributed Maritime Operations (DMO), and Expeditionary Advanced Base Operations (EABO).
Proven experience in crafting and delivering executive-level briefs, white papers, research reports, and future-oriented operating concepts.
Master’s degree in national security, strategic studies, or a relevant technical field.
Preferred: Graduate of a Senior Service College, advanced warfighting school (SAMS, SAWS, JAWS), or War College.
Preferred: Experience in Joint Force Development and Design, particularly with respect to pacing threats, peer adversary capabilities, and operational doctrine.
Security Clearance
Current Top Secret clearance, with eligibility for TS/SCI access.
